This year the Beermaster’s Classic visits Lake Gaston, a 20,000 acre reservoir with 350 miles of shoreline on the North Carolina/Virginia state line. Gaston is a part of the Roanoke River chain of lakes with Kerr Lake (our Virginia stop) to the northwest and Roanoke Rapids Lake to the southeast. Lake Gaston was dammed to provide fresh drinking water for the coastal cities of Virginia and North Carolina – specifically Virginia Beach.
We’ll be staying off of Pea Hill Creek in Henrico, NC on the largest, northern finger of the lake in an amazing water front rental house with a private dock and boat house. The main house sleeps 12 with a full kitchen and living space so even if it rains all weekend we’ll have all the comforts of home.
Total budget for the trip is $1,7750 and includes house rental fees, boat rental fees, as well as food and adult sodas. This budget, for the nine of us, breaks down to roughly $235.00 each. Not bad for a long weekend!
As we begin to venture further and further west on our quest to fish all 50 states, those prices quoted above are sure to go up — especially when flights and rental cars are needed to get to our final destinations.
